Arthritis, how to relieve pain and save joints

Mind the pain. Pain is one of the body's signals that something is wrong. Avoid such activities that cannot be stopped as soon as it becomes clear that you cannot cope with them (for example, climbing on a chair, retrieving a heavy object from a height, carrying a bag that is too heavy, etc.). Ignoring the pain can cause more damage to the joints and cause even more intense pain.

Use large joints instead of small ones. In such a way, you can reduce the stress on the small joints. The shoulder, elbow, and knee joints are more robust, and their use will protect the finger joints. Also, the large muscles surrounding the large joints have more strength and can carry heavy loads. For example: get up from the table leaning on the forearms, not palms and fingers.

Avoid a tight grip, as this position adds pressure to the small joints of the fingers. You should also avoid grasping objects with your thumb and fingertips.

Use bandages. The purpose of their use is to improve the position of the joint, support it, reduce pain and tension, protect weak ligaments and muscles, and prevent the development of deformations. Studies have shown that using an appropriate arm brace significantly reduces pain.

The doctor will prescribe the correct orthosis (bandage) and give recommendations on its use.
